I thought i'd pose this question here, because some of the reasoning on RWC seems a little questionable (at best) to me - and we have all been blessed with watching these guys for quite a while now, so IMO we have a better grasp on these guy's abilities.
Assuming there is a defenseive roster spot to be had next season in Detroit, which of our defensive prospects do you think would be most likely to crack the lineup: Quincey or Meech (or other and if so, explain whom)?
It seems that many on RWC think that Meech would get the spot, because "he has no other options" (meaning he'd get waived, so they'd lose him or have to trade him etc.). I personally think that is preposterous! Is clearing waivers a true threat for Meech? Would Holland actually allow that posibility to play into his decision making? Is Meech better suited for the Show? Is he more prepared?
Share your thoughts... i'm interested.

Personally, I think they'd pick Quincey before Meech, but IMO they are both ready for the show.

I agree with Coyote actually, I think Quincey is better suited for the NHL but if they were to pick Meech, he's definitely ready as well.

I believe that Quincey will be the pick before Meech, if for nothing else than his size and skating ability - however, I think that they will BOTH be given every opportunity to make the RW's next season. Neither one is going to be given the job, but I think they can earn it in camp. RE: the Holland and (Babcock) question and waivers - IMO, Babcock would not let the waiver situation affect his decision on who, and when someone would make, or not make the team.

Quincey's size will give him the edge. I think Meech is a better skater than Quincey but Kyle gets the edge from me based on his size. I doubt Meech will be waived. There's a lot of teams looking for a fast skating, puck moving defenseman and Meech fits that bill. The Wings will either trade him or they'll find a spot for him in Detroit. There's a good possibility that both Meech and Quincey will make the Wings next year depending on who stays and who goes via free agency.

I like Meech. Quincey seems to me to let his emotions get in the way of his game, Derek's game was the same in Detroit as it was here. Quincey seems to elevate his game in Detroit, and that, can't last over the long term. I'm sure he will mature though and 'repair' that part of his game.

I take Quincey over Meech any day. I have to admit Meech has really pucked up his game this year but enough yet to erase the memories I have of him in past years.

My memories of Qunicey this year are not bad. I still have nightmares about Meech's give aways from his first 2 years here.
I do admit I am a bit biased though as I find Kyle to be a lot more approachable and friendly off the ice.

Meech went from "Minus Meech" to our best D-man this season. Quincey didn't have as good a season as his rookie year IMO. But Quincey seems to be doing well in Detroit so who knows. As for off ice personalities ... I find Meech more accommodating than Quincey. Neither will get a Mr. Congeniality award that's for sure. Not that it matters one bit as far as their on ice performance is concerned. Brian

Oh, absolutely, Brian. Derek is much more approachable than Kyle. He is one of the few guys on the team who will say hello first.
IMO, Quincey had an terrible season here, overall. But he is playing much better with Detroit, of course, he doesn't have as much time to mess there either.

Quincey also has a much better supporting cast. His mistakes, apparently few, are reversed by his RW teammates. It looks ike the RW like him enough to keep him on the playoff roster. I don't think he'll be back in a GR sweater.

I've found BOTh of them to be quite approachable and willing to talk , however, we've got to keep in mind that these guys are ONLY in their early to mid twenties - in my discussions with Jimmy today - (I was in the waiting room today at Belle Tire - Grandville with him) of about 1/2 hour, we discussed many things regarding the players -those he thinks will be returning, and those who he thinks won't be, the most recent playoff series, his chances of making the RW's next season, the guys he was leaving with this afternoon for Detroit, and the end of season Griffin golf outing - anyone care to guess who he thinks is the best golfer?

I did not mean to imply that Meech is a bad guy.
I was just stating that my opions of the two may be tainted because I have ran into Kyle outside the rink several times and found him to be extremely friendly.
