I haven't been able to post much 'cause my in-laws have been staying at our house. But I wanted to comment a little about this past weekend.
My wife's father and I went to the home opener and were completely disappointed. That was one of the worst overall efforts I remember seeing at the Van. I ordinarily don't like to single out players (unless it's Cujo) and I won't based on just one game, but our defensive zone play was particularly bad.
I couldn't make Sunday's game so I'm wondering, was it as bad vs. QC as it was against Rockford? I'd like to hear from you guys that went both nights to offer a perspective.
Let's hope they turn it around this week.

Went to both games - Saturday was aTOTAL nightmare - (as RW) said, and Sunday wasn't much better It appeared that half of the team had their minds somewhere else - but at least on Sunday they were in the game until the very end - (UNLIKE the game on Saturday), the Griffs were out of that one before the 1st period was over. Not many of the players except for Ouhalen, Stafford, Hartigan and Englehart played with any "desire". Keefe played like he always does - (GEEZ, I wish he were a little bigger BECAUSE our big guys don't hit) It doesn't appear to me that anyone has lit the "proverbial" fire under these guys - and Grigorenko, Good Riddance! I just hope that the RW's don't have to send one of the players with real desire back down - that'd be a shame!!!!

And I couldn't agree more on Grigorenko. I was totally underwhelmed by his performance. I do not see any reason for the Wings to waste a roster spot on him unless they need another Black Ace for practice. IMO, if he doesn't want to improve his game in GR this year, I'd say let him collect his rubles in Russia.

I think this is one of those situations where the RW have so much invested, that they're giving this "pudgy", but talented, player every opportunity to make the team. If he doesn't make it, the RW can say it was his fault, not the RW. JMO

Yes, you're right Inspector - BUT, there's always a time to "cut your losses" -
TG that there is a roster spot for him - hopefully, they'll see that his lack of determination to play in the NHL is real - and they'll do just that - cut their losses. IMHO, he's NOT an NHL'er

At least Liv sucked it up and hung around for a year (and found out the North American game wasn't his cup of tea). I mean, I too, wanted Grigorenko to be the next Datsyuk, and that might be part of the problem. Those are incredibly high expectations. Regardless, Grigs play thus far, has been flat. Let's hope being with the BIG club, having Dats as a translator, and cashing NHL sized checks brings out the very best in him.
