OK, hockey fans, here we go------
Wayne Gretzky scored 1,000 points in just 424 games. Who is 2nd on the list (1,000 points in the least amount of games)?
Remember, try to do it from memory 1st. If it hasn't been answered correctly by Sunday, then you can look it up.

My gut reaction says Super Mario, just because.
But there's a little voice in my head saying "Mike Bossy, Mike Bossy".
I think Bossy was possibly the best pure goal scorer ever, at least that I've seen, and it seems to me he retired averaging around two points a game. So I want to say him.
But, there's the Lemieux factor that I can't get past. So I don't know. I'm guessing Lemieux, but I won't be surprised if it's Bossy.

I have to agree with RW, Lemieux. Not sure but it was probably to close to 500 games it took him.

Well, here it is Sunday nite, and I don't have a correct answer yet, which surprises me. I think we have a very knowledgeable group here. Oh well. Excellent guesses, by the way! The correct answer is "The Flower of Montreal", Guy La Fleur, who scored his 1,000th point in just his 725th game. Not too shabby!!!

Hey, Snickers, you got some esplainin' to do?!?!?!
March 22
1992 - Mario Lemieux scores his 1000th career point at Detroit in only his 513th career game, thus becoming the second fastest player in NHL history to do so.

Hey, do you guys know how long it took Bossy? 'Cause I'm thinking, if he averaged nearly two points per game for his career, he too must have been in the 500 to 600 game range.
Just curious, if anyone knows.
Thanks.

RW, I haven't been able to pin down the actual # of games but Bossy's (1,000th NHL point) came in Washington on Jan. 24, 1986. Since this is about half way thru the season, a guessimate would be around 650 - 660 games. He just simply did not put the assist numbers that others did, but, man, could he put the biscuit in the basket!!!
Oh, and one more thing....you should consider seeing a professional about those voices in your head.

He just simply did not put the assist numbers that others did, but, man, could he put the biscuit in the basket!!! All right, I hate to admit this, but I've just spent an hour "googling" and found this out. Bossy has the highest goals per game average at 0.762 goals per game. And by the way, the "Great One(half)" came in at 0.601 goals per game. Plus, here's a list of the ten fastest to 1000 points, according to wikipedia, so I hope it's accurate. - Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers 424 19-Dec-84
- Mario Lemieux Pittsburgh Penguins 513 24-Mar-92
- Mike Bossy New York Islanders 656 24-Jan-86
(5'er, I'd say your guess of 650-660 games was pretty damn close, eh?)
- Peter Stastny Quebec Nordiques 682 19-Oct-89
- Jari Kurri Edmonton Oilers 716 2-Jan-90
- Guy Lafleur Montreal Canadiens 720 4-Mar-81
- Bryan Trottier New York Islanders 726 29-Jan-85
- Denis Savard Chicago Blackhawks 727 11-Mar-90
- Steve Yzerman Detroit Red Wings 737 24-Feb-93
- Marcel Dionne Los Angeles Kings 740 7-Jan-81
So the flower was fastest at the time, but now five guys have moved past him. Anyone else surprised by who is No. 4? I guess I never appreciated how good a player he was. Oh, and one more thing....you should consider seeing a professional about those voices in your head. I would, but they're all out to get me.

Who's that, the voices or the professionals.
And yes, No 4 does surprise me. I could thought about that for a long time and never come up with it.

And do you ever wonder why after 9 or 10 great seasons with the Nords, his number doesn't hang from the Av's rafters? I mean, the Quebec franchise moved to Denver and became the Crapalanche, so why isn't Stastny's number hanging next to, oh, I don't know, Ray Bourque's??? Must be Bourque did more in one season than Stastny did in one decade.
Did you hear that??
