Holy.....any one see the big deals so far?
Rags get Drury and Gomez. Leafs got Jason Blake. Philly got Briere for a cool 8 year/$52 mill. and the wings got Brian Rafalski.
Schneids is a duck....
Big deals so far.

Considering Rafalski put up 55 points with the defensive minded Devils, he should fit in as a nice Schneider replacement in Big D. I'm a little bummed to see Schneider go, but at least Rafalski is four years younger AND they got him signed for five years.
BUT, is $6Mil per year a bit much in anyone's opinion? I know Philly set the bar high early on this free agent season, but man, we're gonna get in the same pre-strike/lockout trouble if this trend continues.
By the way, anybody else hear that now the crazy czech Hasek is 'demanding' $2.5M per? This could be a very interesting free agency period.

And after just checking, Lang is gone to the 'hawks. They deserve him.

I thought Rafalski would fall into the 4.5 to 5 mil range and I do think some of the salaries offered are too high. As for Hasek wanting 2.5 mil ... Take the deal Kenny. You're not going to find another goalie with his skill for that money. He proved last season he's back and in shape to go a full season. Hell, Manny Legace gets 2 mil a season! SIGN THE DEAL, SIGN THE DEAL, SIGN THE DEAL!!!!!!!!! If Holland doesn't want to pay him that much he can work a trade with the Bruins for Tim Thomas. He's signed for 1.3 mil! ;D Brian

Add Bergoonzi to the list. He's now a Duck, too.

Geez, so far it's minus Schneider, Lang, Bergoonzi and Calder (to LA); Hasek riding the fence; and, plus Rafalski.
Looks like Holland now has cap space to work with so Hasek should be a done deal. Now, what gritty forward are they going to get to handle the power forward role, or are they expecting the grit from Kopy? Maybe a bigger role for Fil (and Hudler? - Not Babcock's favorite, seems unlikely).
Shanny hasn't signed with the Rag$ yet, maybe Kenny's talking to him. Or Guerin, who's a year and a half younger than Shanahan.
And what about Danny Markov? Do they go back seriously after him, now with cap space available?
Hmmmmm..............

You know, one other thought about Bergoonzi. Remember after the playoffs he said how much he liked Detroit and really fit in the locker room and he was really looking forward to working things out? Well, then we hear that the problem was the term. Holland was only offering two years and the Goon wanted more security. Now, he turns around and signs a two year deal with the Aflacs. Must be two years is longer and more secure on the West coast than in the Midwest. Well, at least it's EASY to go back to hating that cheapshot artist. (So much for me giving him a second chance.

Don't know if Hudler's sticking around, he reportedly has a 7 figure offer from a russian team.

I have always been a Drake fan but I have to wonder how much hockey he has left in him.

I, too, have always been a Drake fan. I wish the Wings never let him go. Let's hope he has a few good years left in him---- he's the kind of player the Wings obviously need.
