Means that Syracuse just lost a big piece from their team.
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - The New Jersey Devils claimed defenseman Sheldon Brookbank off waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.
Brookbank, who will turn 27 Wednesday, had 15 goals and 38 assists with Milwaukee of the AHL last season. He won the Eddie Shore Trophy as the league's top defenseman. Brookbank made his NHL debut appearing in three games with Nashville in February, posting his first career point with an assist against Pittsburgh.
The Lanigan, Saskatchewan, native was signed as a free agent by Columbus on July 1.

Interesting. I've heard the Devils are banged up/thin on the blue line already and were rumored to be looking at Markov. So the Brookbank deal looks like a typical money saving move by LL and the Devils.
By the way, is anyone else surprised that Markov is still on the market? Does he come with some baggage? Is there something we don't know about?
Or is it just because he's asking for too much money over too many years? Which makes him perfectly normal in today's sports environment. But maybe the teams are starting to rein themselves in a bit.

5'er, you should care, because Sheldon always seems to find the scoring touch when at Van Andel and this way he can't.

Yup, RedWings, I'm also surprised about Markov. As you mention, it's probably a $/contract length issue-----

Looks like New Jersey needed Brookbank to replace Rafalski..... hehe Wishful thinking, from a mal-adjusted admirer. JK crazy, as I recall almost all of brookbank's success was with the Ads, he was just an ordinary defenseman with other teams, including the Griffins and I suspect will be again soon.

Somebody from the Griffins office dropped off the 2006/2007 AHL Stat book... Sheldon was the highest scoring defenseman in the AHL last year.

Yup, crazyforb, he was also named the AHL Defenseman of the Year. Why would Columbus sign him and then send him down, risking him not clearing waivers (AHL D'man of the Year, remember) Seems industrial strength stupid to me-----
