Today was busy for the Griffins....
Cameron and Keller have been released. Flipper and Jimmy are coming down and Joey is going up to the big club. In addition the Griffins have signed Jeff Nelson to a PTO.

You mean the Wings got sense enough and actually sent Jimmy down and recalled Joey? Bout dang time....I thought Joey should have been up there since the get-go, either him or Drew...
And Cameron seemed like a pretty good player to me, too bad he didn't get to stick around for awhile longer. However, its nice to have Nellie back! Welcome back, Nellie!

Lets just hope that the Howard butt kissing isn't going to start now that he's down in GR. Drew has played exceptionally well and deserves to get some starts now that Joey's up in Detroit; where he should be btw.

Howard should have been in GR the whole time, I admit he's a great goaltender, but Drew should have been the guy in Detroit backing up with the injuries to Ozzie and Manny.
There has got to be still something wrong with Joey. He's just still not playing as well as we know he can. Maybe the back is still bothering him

I think Drew was the right man for the job all along, I was pushing for either Drew or Joey to be in Detroit and Jimmy stay here...however, now that I think about it, with Joey still recovering, Drew needs to be up there....sadly though, the Wings can't see a good goaltender if it hit them in the face with a brick wall and said hi, I'm a good goaltender....why else would they still have Osgood?

That's the problem grudes, Drew can do no right and Howard can do no wrong when in truth it should be the other way around. Handing Howard a silver platter and feeding him off of it is stupid, he should have to prove himself just like Joey and Drew. Sure he was good in college hockey but this isn't college hockey.

Exactly, and its like I've said before, not everyone can be like Ryan Miller, and thats exactly what they're trying to pass Jimmy off as, another Ryan Miller.
The Wings just can't see that their doing this....they were so high on Drew for the longest time, but now that Howard has come along, Drew is getting shafted. I'd hate to see what happens next season when Liv comes to North America.
I agree with you, Jimmy should have had to proove himself like everyone else.

And I think the reason is because Detroit is scared. The brass is scared that if they hold Howard up to the same measuring sticks (deny it all you want, there are three different ones) as Joey and Drew, right now at least he won't stand out. It's a come problem with NHL teams...they won't admit when they are wrong about a prospect.
Howard's got talent, you can see that but he has to work to refine it. He also has to work to earn rewards such as playing time. However since Detroit controls the team (basically) Howard will get the time while we sit idly by an either watch him start living up to that potential or fall flat on his face.
I've only seen him play good once this year and that was the game in Toronto in November and even then he was out of position a lot of the time.
He's gonna get the time now I guess. I just hope if he falls that GI has the guts to pull him after three goals like Drew...instead of leaving him in there to ruin the rest of the team's confidence.

Oh for the love! I know that it's natural to love the under-dog and Drew is that for sure...not to mention Drew really has shined this year, AT POINTS, but I'd just like to remind everyone that just as Jimmy got pulled by GI, so have Joey AND Drew this year...YES, ALL THREE have won games and ALL THREE have had to be pulled.
I don't think that we can really judge Jimmy based on what we've seen this year, because we haven't seen much at all...he's been here, he's been there, but he's not been in one place long enough to really get comfortable and he hasn't actually been in net in any one place for us to really see what he's made of.
I don't think that the Wings are scared or worried...they have nothing to be scared or worried about. Even Ryan Miller wasn't 100% from the get-go. His second year in the NHL he only played 3 games and had a 5.08 GAA.
Don't worry YET. Whoever GI decides to put in goal, i'll trust him...

I'm not saying anything bad against Jimmy, all I'm saying is that I think he was sent up to the NHL too soon and should have been made to proove himself just like Joey and Drew. In all honesty, Drew has been the best goaltender for the Griffins this season, he's the one who should have been in Detroit from the get-go, not Jimmy. not Joey. I have nothing against Jimmy personally, I just think he needs more time to develop his play in this league, this isn't college hockey. But the Wings unfortunately do not see this, which means Drew is getting the shaft again this season, which is too bad for him. He deserves to be up in Detroit. Unfortunately, as I said, nobody sees that.

But the Wings unfortunately do not see this, which means Drew is getting the shaft again this season, which is too bad for him. He deserves to be up in Detroit. Unfortunately, as I said, nobody sees that. Again, I disagree. I think that the Wings were put in an unfortunate position early this year losing one goalie, just to get him back to lose the other, and so on. If, as you say, the Wings didn't see that Jimmy needed time to develope in the AHL, they would not have wasted their money with two NHL caliber goalies (Ozzie and Manny)...they'd have traded or something once Jimmy was for sure their little pawn for the year. However, they didn't do this. With Joey unable to play, and Ozzie and Manny taking turns injured, the Wings were forced to chose between Drew and Jimmy. Based on Jimmy's previous (though college) track record and Drew's (yes, this year he's been stellar, but he struggled at times in the past), I think it was an obvious decision. If we all could only know then what we know now...who'd have known how great Drew would be. Grudes, I know that you don't mean to say anything mean against Jimmy, you just like to support Drew, but I think in doing so, you are indirectly (sometimes directly) putting down a goalie, who fortunately or unfortunately depending on who you talk to, we are stuck with. He will be in the organization for a while, whether it be with the Wings or Griffins and supporting the team means supporting every part of it...like it or not.

If Joey was healthy when the season started the decision would have been a lot worse for the Wings. Then would one of those NHL goalies have still been around? There are a lot of what ifs if Joey's back had been better...sadly...
Depends on who you ask because a lot of people saw this in Drew from the get go. There are those people that see it in Howard now and then there are those, who saw and still do see it in Drew.
I'm not a fan of Howard either but I'm first to admit he's got the talent if he works on it. Howard's got awesome talent he just needs to work on it like any player...just be nice to see him play up to that point we all know he's got inside him..
People also love to rise and fall with the can't miss prospect. Take Sidney Crosby he adimately states he hates that label because he's not god...he's just a player with above average skills.
I'd actually like to see Howard play more...Like the game in Toronto in November. Howard played phenominally...Be nice to see him play more at that level be it here or in Detroit.

The one that surprises me is Finley for Milwaukee. All the way up he's always been so good. He seems so outta place in the AHL and that seems so weird...I wonder if it's due to the injuries he's had to endure.
Brian, are goalies subject to more injuries because they move around more during a game?

There are those people that see it in Howard now and then there are those, like grudes who saw it in Drew. True, obviously the Wings and Ken Holland saw something in Drew or they'd have never signed him... however seeing talent or having a gut feeling on a player doesn't cut it in the long run...the big wigs have to make their decision based on results... and their past stats give Jimmy the nod... then you have to factor in experience. Ha! Don't you wish you could be Ken Holland.
