A friend of mine lead me to a fan site for the Bridgeport Soundtigers. He's a CT native and member of the board and told me he was agast at Griffin "fan" loyalty. I told him that I and most of my fellow fans, first and foremost, cheer for our team. This was what caused him to say this. As you can see, i've been a member of this board for a long time, but not until now was moved enough to post. This really got my goat.
A self-professed Griffin fan has recently joined their board (shocking with Bootland's new signing) and wrote the following in a post (refering to Bootland and McDonald): "Right now with the way Detroit screwed them over, I'd love nothing better than for Bridgeport to meet Grand Rapids in the Calder Cup Finals and have Bridgeport kick our butts."
WOW! I myself have had favorites through the years, but first and foremost cheer for my team, THE GRIFFINS! I hope that you all are in agreement with me. GO GRIFFINS!

Oh, there are some so-called GRG fans who will not but I agree 100% funone! This is the very reason I say when a player is gone, he's gone. Don't get to chummy with them. I enjoyed Daryl and Joey's time here, they were excellent in the Griffins uni. But if they come back to the Van, it's the old 'WHO CARES' cheer from me. It is always TEAM FIRST in my book.

Here is the link to the Bridgeport Forum www.soundtigerforums.com/index.phpIn fact I'll do you one better. Here is MY entire post, something thefunone left out. As a fan of the Grand Rapids Griffins, all I can tell you is that you're really lucky to get Darryl on your team. He is a great player and will bring alot to your club. He was a huge fan favorite here and gave the crowd an exciting game to watch. Sure he's gonna watch over your guys as the protector, but just watch when he gets around the net. He has soft hands that lead to big goals. This past year he was infamous for getting that last second goal. It stinks that we're losing him but its awesome to see him go to a team where he can hopefully get back into the NHL. Detroit really gave him the short end of the stick in his tenure here, but then again they are infamous for doing so.
Take Joey MacDonald for example.
Detroit is known for screwing over their goalies. Down here in GR, they played Joey until they broke him basically. He got his back injury because they didn't have much faith in the backup at the time. But when Joey came back with a vengeance, Detroit showed no faith in him. You guys are getting a top notch goalie for your #1.
Right now with the way Detroit screwed them over, I'd love nothing better than for Bridgeport to meet Grand Rapids in the Calder Cup Finals and have Bridgeport kick our butts. Yes I'm a die hard Griffins and Red Wings fan but these were two of my fave players and I hate to see them treated they way they were. I have a feeling they're gonna love it in Bridgeport. I'm hoping to talk my husband into make a trip to see them play sometime this season. When you guys play Providence should be easy enough as he's a huge Bruins fan. If I can't, B2 is gonna become my friend....LOLNow when I put in the line about us meeting Bridgeport in the Calder Cup Finals I did so to purely vent, BUT I am not ashamed of my words. Yes I am a Griffins fan along with being a Red Wings fan. But more importantly I'm a fan of the game of hockey. There is nothing wrong if your favorite players move on and you follow their career. It doesn't make you any less of a fan. My husband and I go to hockey games to be entertained. Even if the Griffins lose but played a good game, we still appreciate the entertainment value of the game. I find it odd that thefunone chose to post at this time. Since this person has become a member of the board there have been some wonderful debates over the game and the players that this person chose to not take part in. Yet their first post is a sh*t stirring one. My husband and I have season tickets and have had season tickets for the past four seasons. We're spending our hard earned money on the tickets and putting our support behind the Griffins. I don't know if thefunone or theladies are season ticket holders but if you're not, then put your money where your mouth is. If you are...THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR SUPPORTING OUR BELOVED GRAND RAPIDS GRIFFINS!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Detroit didn't give Bootland the short end of the stick; they did him a HUGE favor. They saw he wasn't going to play for them, so he got released. It was the best thing for him. He may have been a fan favorite, but he isn't going to be anything but a career minor leaguer . . . 4th liner in the NHL at best. Perhaps I'll be eating my words . . .
As for the goalies, which are the backbone of any team, if you can't make it in the minors, you surely aren't going to make it in the NHL. Part of that process is determining the physical ability and mental capacity of any player. I'm not saying Joey had any problems with the latter, but he certainly did with the former. Joey is damaged goods in the Wings eyes, and Howard is simply a better goalie. JMO

"I don't know if thefunone or theladies are season ticket holders but if you're not, then put your money where your mouth is." I only asked for a link to the board. I read this board for fun and to find out information regarding our team. To answer your question, I am a season ticket holder (and a loyal one at that). I just wanted the link so that I could follow former Griffins players. I didn't mean to make you upset, but posting was the only way to get the link!

But both of them are probably career minor leaguers (unless Buttman expands to a dozen more cities). The Wings gave both players more than ample time to raise their games to the NHL level. There is not one RW forward I would sit in favor of Bootland, and likewise Mac is not better than Hasek or Osgood. Sure, we may have loved them as Griffins, but this is the business end of the package. The Wings did not screw them over, and in fact would have screwed themselves by trying to carry them any further. And neither of them are an upgrade to the Wings at this time. So off they go. Let's not forget that most AHL'ers never make it to the NHL. And as for the team concept, I'm in complete agreement with thefunone and 5hole. First and foremost, my allegiance will always be with my favorite teams, the Wings and Griffins. When they played the Rag$ or the Flames I rooted just as hard for a Wing win, regardless of Shanahan or McCarty. Sure, I enjoyed both those players as Wings, and I wish them well. BUT NOT WHEN THEY'RE PLAYING THE WINGS. And if we meet in the finals, I don't care if Bridgeport dresses the Miller brothers and Travis Richards, I'm rooting hard for my home team.

I wish them all the best. I see no problem with this. I do, however, agree with you Mr. 5 in the fact that it is always my team first. It's not easy to route "against" someone who you used to cheer so strongly for, but in the end I ALWAYS want my team to win. End of story.

If you are routing for someone to beat your team then you are not a fan. I don't care if you buy season tickets, buy merchandise, drive the team bus, pop popcorn at the concession stand, or whatever else.
I do not always agree with direction my team is going (players, coaches, front office) and have no problem voicing my displeasure but I will never route against my team. When you start doing that it is time to move on.

There is nothing odd about my posting and it was not done with the intent to point fingers, I did not name names and in fact had no clue who "puckluvr" was or if that person posted here. I have indeed been a member and enjoyed reading various debates on this board. I up until now have not posted, because my point of view is generally represented rather well by my fellow fanboard members. This post, however, I was truly shocked and disgusted by and these feelings drove me to post for the first time. I'll continue to read this board avidly, but don't plan on posting unless I am moved to do so.
I am a season ticket holder and you will find me cheering for MY TEAM every time they hit the ice.

Inspector, I agree 100% about Bootland. However the problem with him was he was getting conflicting information from the Red Wings and GI. The Wings were telling him to stay out of the sin bin and score more. GI kept telling him his job was to stand up for the other guys and be the physcial force on the ice. He was caught in the middle and couldn't quite pull his game together, which led to the frustration and anger towards the coach at the end. But it is good that he's moved on because he is getting a fresh start somewhere else. As for Joey. To be honest the last goalie we brought through our system was Chris Osgood. The Red Wings are in a habit of buying pre-made goalies so to speak. Joey was the 3rd wheel in the Wings system, and as was pointed out not better than Hasek and Osgood. But he wasn't fully given a chance to prove himself either. The only reason he didn't make it in Boston...two words... Tuukka Rask That is the Bruins future in goal and from what I've heard a really good future at that. He's on the same level as a Carey Price which mean if all goes well he won't spend much time in Providence. There was no room for Joey at all. So its also better from him to have moved on with a fresh start. Theladies, I think its awesome you want to follow former Griffins players and are season ticket holders. We need more people like you, that are willing to put their money behind the team to come out and support them at every home game. As for me being upset, I wasnt. However I just wanted people to see the entire post not just one line. So that if it came off as I was upset, then I am truly sorry. In closing, I'm not going to beat this into the ground. I AM A GRIFFINS FAN FIRST AND FOREMOST. The Griffins always do come first. If by waiting after the game to speak to a player on the opposing team which you've grown to have a cordial friendship with is wrong...Then get ready to talk alot about me this year. Because win or lose I still plan on catching up with former Griffins after the game.

Uh, sbm-----
You're contradicting yourself. Detroit giving Bootland the short end of the stick? Huh? He had more chances than Carter's has pills, for God's sake!!!
Time to move on, for both involved.
As for Joey, it's unfortunate what happened to him---- he is a class guy. But such is the nature of minor league hockey. They all know it.
It's OK, of course, to follow & root for players who have left & play for other teams. Just remember, team 1st.

I see nothing wrong with cheering for certain players after they have left the team, especially if they were your favorites while they were here. Nothing wrong with that. I follow their careers and support them 100% and if it makes me a fair weather fan for not yelling "WHO CARES" when they come to the van, then so be it, I am a fair weather fan.

EVERY team has guys and fans that think guys got 'screwed over', so what it's pro sports. Personally I don't see how either of these guys were 'screwed over'. They both had several chances with the Wings and did not get it done. I hope they are both successful in the future, just not against the Wings and Griffins, regardless of the situation.
Oh, when it comes right down to it, there's nothing wrong with following guys career but if you root against your team then there is a major problem, IMHO. And sbm has rooted for 'her' players regardless. And obviously, will continue to do so, whether it is the Griffins they are playing or not. that has been proven time and again when a certain Canadian team visits the Van.
grudes, it's not yelling who cares that makes you a half-assed Griffins fan, it's defending a player against your team and rooting for the player to beat your team that does that.
